Polymeric Diazeniumdiolates

We have prepared NO-releasing derivatives of some of the most commercially important polymers for use in medical applications. These have included polyurethanes possessing the diazeniumdiolate group attached to nitrogen atoms on side chains 1, as well as polyacrylonitriles containing carbon-bound diazeniumdiolates 2. We have also prepared a reagent that can conjugate a NO-releasing diazeniumdiolated piperazine to proteins such as albumin 3, and simple polydiazeniumdiolated polyethyleneimine (PEI) derivatives for a variety of uses.
